The Cicerone solution, developed by iUrban, was the winner of the first edition of “The AI for Tourism Awards 2024”, organised by SEGITTUR and FITUR as part of Fitur Know-How & Export.
A total of 14 solutions developed using Artificial Intelligence were submitted to the competition. These submissions were then evaluated by a jury made up of SEGITTUR, AMETIC, The Valley and the Technological Institute of Computer Sciences of Valencia, based on five criteria: degree of innovation, usability, improvement of the tourist experience, originality and scalability.
Cicerone was declared the winner of the first edition, since, according to the jury, it offers a solution based on artificial intelligence that provides information in real time about tourists’ queries in 95 languages, generating a conversation with the tourist to understand them better and define a profile to offer them the best possible content to make the experience more satisfactory.
The factors that the jury mentioned in particular as regards this solution were the scalability of the initiative, usability and, of course, the improvement of the tourist experience.
Finalists
The two finalists were Wespeak, which helps hotels solve the problem of delayed responses sought by guests 24 hours a day via any platform (Whatsapp, Facebook, Instagram, Google or websites), using AI-trained conversational assistants; and Smart Destination Management, a global B2B and B2C platform that allows users to create self-guided applications using a web-based content management system.
SEGITTUR and FITUR have launched this initiative as Artificial Intelligence has started to play a prominent role in the field of tourism, revolutionising the way travellers plan, book and enjoy trips.
The tourism areas in which Artificial Intelligence is present include personalisation of experiences, booking management and customer service, chatbots, facial recognition and translation.
